Hello Mark,

Congrats on the new job! It sounds like you are in a good new place.

You gave some useful advice in your "they say"/ "you say instead" section above. In your last point you mention that you don't wear a suit and tie to the interview.

I work in formal men's fashion, and actually own a necktie retailer. Wearing a necktie for an interview depends on the type of job you are applying. If the tie is part of your daily work attire, once hired, than wearing suit and tie to the interview is an absolute must. I always recommend wearing a suit and tie to an interview even if it won't be part of the work attire. It shows that you took the time to look professional, and that you care and have respect for the employer. A NO-NO is trying to intimidate the interviewer with your attire. Don't be too stylish and flashy. Instead wear classic/ conservative colors and patterns such as: Charcoal gray suit, white dress shirt, navy blue necktie with conservative diagonal stripes.

Thanks for posting this.

Mark, congrats on accepting a job at Partners and welcome to our small team of 1300. I came to Partners about 5.5 years ago from a small company and had a similar motivation to work for a large, highly-matrixed organization where political complexity matched technical complexity. You're going to have the opportunity to work with some of the highest caliber talent in healthcare IT. If you'll be based in our Wellesley office, look me up and drop by. Best of luck -- Chris
